‘FOLLOW THAT STAR!’

From star gazers to car grazers – Masterlease’s Horoscope Code proves we’re really driven by our star sign
April 2008

Forget the Highway Code – the new company car companion is to be The Horoscope Code, the fleet manager’s guide to their most risky drivers.

The guide has been produced by Masterlease after studying the star signs of risky drivers through its ProAct accident management software over the last five years.

In 2003, Masterlease first used ProAct to highlight the correlation between horoscopes and horror stories, a theme recently picked up by the RAC which last month claimed that Librans were the most likely motorists to break down at the road side.

Masterlease which looks after 100,000 cars in the UK, will be sending its scientifically-compiled Horoscope Code to all its customers to help cut down the number of costly accidents and down time.

Code author Al Prolifo, Masterlease’s enthusiastic astrologer and retained risk consultant, says: “It’s official - we are driven by the stars rather than our skill behind the wheel. Our research since 2003 all points to the fact that astrological signs might be as influential as roadside ones when it comes to drivers taking risk.”

The initial research discovered that those born under the archer sign of Sagittarius were target material for risk, Taurians could be bullish and Gemini’s could often be perceived as in two minds while in the driving seat.   Whether it is written in the stars or written off by them, the findings drew the conclusion that Mars colliding with Jupiter at the time of our birth might make us more likely to have our own collisions in later life.

The staggering discoveries behind this ‘highway horoscope’ also reveal that there is something fishy about Piscean drivers as they are more than 40% more likely to get their fleet managers into deep water than the average driver.

It could also be double trouble for the twin personality Gemini drivers who, although statistically are 40 per cent less likely to have accidents, tend to have bigger, more expensive crunches (approximately £1,000) when they do. There was a double target for Sagittarians, whose star sign characteristics included being ‘irresponsible and superficial’ as they were 25 per cent more likely to have an accident and cost an average of £600 to put it right.

The research shows that ‘imaginative and sensitive’ Pisceans may be intuitive in every day life, but not behind the wheel where their ‘escapist and idealistic’ pre-dispositions are reflected in their driving style. As a result Pisceans came out as 40 per cent more likely to have an accident than other drivers. The statistical findings also revealed that on average the Piscean driver costs the fleet insurance company around £700 per claim.  Although not the highest figure, this does put them into a risk cosmos of their own when added to the other factors.

Friendly and humanitarian Aquarians are not only ‘independent and intellectual’ but in accident terms they are the steady eddies of the Zodiac. They have an average number of accidents and when they do report incidents, they tend to cost around £600, the lowest claim on the star chart.

Prolifo adds: “This initial research clearly showed that the driver is one of the biggest risks to business and companies should keep a close eye on those whose vehicles frequently seem to be in the wars.  The Horoscope Code builds upon this with handy tips to fleet managers because, although the star sign analysis can be seen as light hearted, there is a strong correlation between date of birth and accidents and suggests that our sample could be driven by something more powerful than a two litre engine!
